Science Olympiad is nationwide competition. At the 2020 National Science Olympiad, students will compete in 23 events that include earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Science Olympiad is designed to increase a student’s interest in STEM fields and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. Students compete in Science Olympiad with the top teams advancing from Regional to State to National levels.
The Central NM Science Olympiad strives to offer as many of the National SO events as possible each year at both the B (middle school) and C (high school) Divisions. Event Supervisors are recruited from area STEM organizations, colleges/universities, the STEM educator community, and area businesses/industry. Many of our ES's return year after year because they love the competition and enjoy working with our participating students. Sometimes, if we have challenges recruiting Event Supervisors for particular events, we will reach out to our region's team coaches to request their assistance with identifying and recruiting ES's for events without them prior to our internal deadline for having ES's confirmed. If we are unable to find an ES for a particular event by our deadline, that event will not be offered during the regional competition.
