Science Olympiad is nationwide competition. Students compete in 23 events that include earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Science Olympiad is designed to increase a student’s interest in STEM fields and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. Students compete in Science Olympiad with the top teams advancing from Regional to State to National levels.
2019 will mark the inaugural UMD Science Olympiad Invitational, run by the students of the UMD Maryland Science Olympiad Club. The club, made up of former Science Olympiad competitors and science and engineering enthusiasts from around the country, has helped run tournaments in Maryland for almost a dozen years with as many as 1,000 competitors, and now takes the reigns at running Maryland's first open Invitational tournament!
